A Space to breathe
Interior Architecture & Design
What inspires me...
This page is where I have been collecting inspirational images of soothing spaces and interesting architectural elements I have found whilst researching. Some of these images may relate to materials, lighting, connection with the outdoors, and anything I believe could be useful when designing a sensory space.
I have designed this page to be treated as a blog, where I will regularly update it with my findings.
Beautiful outdoor setting, where the person is somewhat enclosed, but still has a great connection with the forest
The dark materials and carefully designed lighting in this vast space creates a cold sensation, and makes me feel very small
This very cosy dining area has a rustic charm to it, and creates a lovely intimate setting.
Chihuly's hand blown glass ornaments are beautifully intricate, and when a collection of them are presented together, the organic shapes are very eye-catching and feels like a Coral Reef
I really like the cosy feeling this image portrays. The seating looks very comfortable and being outdoors for a movie looks very relaxing
I really like how Eva Hesse manipulated such a simple material into an effective installation. It looks very delicate and as though it is floating in mid-air, peacefully.
I like ho the organic shapes of this building connect it to its natural surroundings and does not interrupt it.
Powerful installation by Antony Gormley that provokes curiosity in its viewers. The ghostly shadows can only be created with the viewers' interaction with the artwork.
I like how this winter garden has been built up to create a level where you can see the depth of the pebbles. The dark space combined with bright lights create interesting shadows from the plants.
I really like the bold choice of material and colour used in this installation. The artist has created an iconic shelter that stands out yet it still connects to the trees along the path.
I find the rice paper screens very soothing. This is typical in Japanese interiors, and it creates a soothing sensation by defusing harsh natural lighting and spreading it across the room.
The use of natural materials here work beautifully with the reflection of the water. It makes it seem as though the house is floating.
This modern church conversion has a fantastic sky light in the bathroom which shows the tree above it. I like how this creates a connection with the outside whilst still being fully indoors.
Simple, elegant, and spacious winter garden design. I like how this feels like an over-sized roof light, flooding the whole space with natural lighting.
I like the use of stones on the floor of this space, as it then permits for weathering. The open ceiling provides natural elements for the plants to survive whilst indoors.
